Courtney Everald "Jamal" Dewar Jr. (July 7, 1993 – December 24, 2012), known by his stage name Capital Steez (stylized as Capital STEEZ), was an American rapper and songwriter. He was from Brooklyn, New York. Capital Steez helped start the Beast Coast movement. This movement includes three main groups from Flatbush: Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, and The Underachievers. Both Pro Era and Beast Coast became very popular around the world after his passing.

Early Life and Beliefs
Courtney Everald Dewar Jr. was born in New York City. His parents were from Jamaica. His father passed away when Courtney was three years old. He went to Public School 222 Elementary School in Brooklyn, New York. In fourth grade, he formed his first rap group with his friend Jakk the Rhymer.
As he grew up, Dewar explored different spiritual ideas. He was raised as a Christian. In high school, he became interested in Rastafari, which became a big part of his life. Later, he also watched a YouTube series called Spirit Science. This series talked about spiritual and mind-related theories.

Starting Out in Music (2008–2011)
Jamal Dewar started rapping in 2008. He and Jakk the Rhymer formed a group called The 3rd Kind. They released their first mixtape, The Yellow Tape, in the same year.
Capital STEEZ is known for creating the term "Beast Coast Movement". This name describes the growing popularity of hip-hop groups from the East Coast. These groups include Pro Era, The Underachievers, and Flatbush Zombies. All three groups are from Brooklyn. They often use the phrase Beast Coast in their songs and on concert posters.
AmeriKKKan Korruption and Growing Fame (2012)
On February 23, 2012, Joey Bada$$ and Capital STEEZ put their song "Survival Tactics" on YouTube. The magazine Spin even listed one of his lines in "The 25 Best Rap Lines of 2012."
Capital STEEZ released his first solo mixtape, AmeriKKKan Korruption, on April 7, 2012. It had 14 songs. This mixtape was highly praised by many people. A "reloaded" version with seven more songs came out on October 10, 2012. This new version had 21 songs in total. It featured many of his Pro Era teammates like CJ Fly, Chuck Strangers, Joey Bada$$, Dirty Sanchez, and Jakk the Rhymer. The mixtape also featured music from famous producers like Madlib and MF DOOM.
His Passing and Music After
Capital Steez passed away on December 24, 2012. He was 19 years old. After his passing, his music continued to be released and celebrated.
On July 7, 2013, Pro Era released the song "King Steelo." This song was from an album that would be released after his death. On December 24, 2013, a year after he passed, Pro Era released a music video for his song "47 Piiirates." Later, on August 26, 2016, an animated music video for his song "Herban Legend" was released. This video was shown at the second annual Steez Day Concert.
On June 12, 2017, Capital Steez's Twitter account posted a new message: "The Beginning." Fans thought this tweet was a special message about his upcoming album, King Capital. Joey Bada$$ and Capital Steez's family announced that the album would be released on December 23, 2017. However, the album was delayed because of legal and music sample issues.
On January 2, 2018, Joey Bada$$ told fans that he was working to put Capital Steez's AmeriKKKan Korruption mixtape on streaming services like Spotify. He also hoped to release the King Capital album later that year.
Personal Beliefs
Steez had unique spiritual beliefs. He was interested in ancient Egyptian mysticism, numerology, and the Indian chakra system. He also believed in astral projection. Steez thought he was one of the Indigo children. He also believed he was from a higher dimension.
Steez was very interested in the number 47. He thought it had a special spiritual meaning. He believed the number 47 showed "perfect balance in the world." He felt it represented the connection between the heart and the brain. These are linked to the fourth and seventh chakra.
His Lasting Impact
In May 2015, Joey Bada$$ announced a "STEEZ Day Festival." This festival would happen every year on July 7, which is Capital STEEZ's birthday. All the money raised from the festival would go to his family. The first festival was held in Central Park in New York City. The 2016 festival took place in Los Angeles, California.
In December 2017, Joey Bada$$ showed off a special chain. It had Capital STEEZ's face on it, similar to a Jesus Piece. This chain was called the "Steezus Piece" chain. It was custom-made by Greg Yuna.
