Felicia of Roucy (born around c. 1060 – died May 3, 1123) was an important queen in the history of Spain. She was the queen consort of both the Kingdom of Aragon and the Kingdom of Navarre. This means she was married to the king and shared his royal title.
Who Was Felicia of Roucy?
Felicia was born around 1060. Her parents were Hilduin IV of Montdidier and Alice of Roucy. They came from a region in France called Picardy.
Becoming a Queen
In 1076, Felicia married Sancho Ramírez. At that time, he was already the King of Aragon. He had previously divorced his first wife, Isabella of Urgell.
Later that same year, Sancho Ramírez also became the King of Navarre. This made Felicia the first queen of Aragon who was also the Queen of Navarre. She held these important titles until her husband's death.
Some old stories suggested that King Sancho married a third wife, but historians now believe this was a mistake. Felicia is thought to have lived longer than her husband.
Her Royal Family
Felicia and King Sancho Ramírez had three children together:
- Ferdinand
- Alfonso
- Ramiro
Alfonso later became a powerful king known as Alfonso the Battler. Ramiro also became a king, known as Ramiro II.
