Hamlin Lake is a large lake in Michigan. It was created by people. A dam was built on the Big Sable River. This dam made the river water back up, forming the lake. Hamlin Lake is a popular spot for outdoor fun.

Hamlin Lake is quite big! It stretches about 12 miles (19 km) long. It is also about 2 miles (3 km) wide. The lake covers a huge area of 4,990 acres (20.2 sq km).

The lake has two main parts. These are called the upper and lower lakes. A narrow section, known as "the narrows," separates them. The western part of the lake is deeper. It goes down almost 80 feet (24 meters). The eastern part is shallower, only about 34 feet (10 meters) deep.

The very first dam on the Big Sable River was built a long time ago. This was in the 1850s. It was built to power a sawmill. The dam helped create the lake we know today.
