It is not in the photo yet, but İşçi Sigortaları Hanı (Workers’ Insurance Office) would be built in 1952 on the empty lot. The ground for the Grand Movie Theatre was broken in 1947. It was designed by architect Abidin Mortaş. The building’s capacity allowed an audience of 1550 people. It was quite luxurious. The personnel were well-dressed. The theatre was opened with the movie Deception on January 17, 1949. Film premieres were special events. People would wear their best clothes on Monday nights as if they were going to an opera. Atatürk Bulvarı, Büyük Sinema ve İş Hanı, 1950’li yıllar. Soldan itibaren Atatürk Bulvarı’nda Büyük Sinema, yanında Turgut Demirağ’ın And Apartmanı, onun yanında Öztrak ailesinin Bulvar Apartmanı. Fotoğrafta görülmüyor; ama yanındaki boş arsaya, Tuna Caddesi’nin köşesine 1952’de İşçi Sigortaları Hanı yapılacaktır. Büyük Sinema’nın temeli 1947’de atıldı. Mimarı Abidin Mortaş’tı. 1550 seyirci alıyordu. Konforluydu. Personeli özel giyimliydi. Sinemanın perdesi 17 Ocak 1949 günü Zehirli Yalan (Deception) filmiyle açıldı. Galaların özel bir yeri vardı. İnsanlar, pazartesi geceleri olanca şıklıkları içinde, operaya gidermiş gibi giderlerdi Büyük Sinema’ya. Türk filmlerine nadir olarak yer verilirdi. Sesi radyodan, taş plaklardan bilinen, çok merak edilen Zeki Müren, ilk konserini 19 Kasım 1953 günü Büyük Sinema’da verdi. Sinema her etkinliğe açıktı.
