Description: Monk Lazar the Serb showing Grand Prince Vasily I of Moscow and his two vassals the clock tower. Lazar invented and built the first known mechanical, public clock, which also struck hours, in Russia, at the request of Vasily I. The original miniature is from the 16th-century Ostermanovskij manuscript, part of the Litsevoy Collection of Chronicles (Ancient Chronicle. Sheet 587, drawing 1175).
