THE NEW JERSEY LEGISLATURE WOULD NOT GIVE HIM A CHARTER TO EXPAND HIS SCHOOL INTO A COLLEGE SO HE MOVED TO RHODE ISLAND WHERE HE RECEIVED MORE ENCOURAGEMENT AND UTIMATELY FOUNDED A COLLEGE WHICH BECAME BROWN UNIVERSITY. TWO OF HIS ALUMINI ALSO WENT TO RHODE ISLAND AND HELPED DEVELOP BROWN UNIVERSITY
