Description: The wreck of the MV Braer The Braer went ashore at Garths Ness on 5th January 1993. A combination of gale forces winds and the very light crude meant that the environmental impact was much less than feared, although there are, as far as I am aware, still restrictions on shellfish landings from areas on the west coast of Shetland 15 years later. Ironically, the Braer was en route from Norway to Quebec and had not called in at Shetland's Sullom Voe Oil Terminal.
