Image: Virginia valeriae elegans - Western Smooth Earth Snake
Description: THIS IS NOT A SMOOTH EARTH SNAKE!!! It is a Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi)...from Oklahoma City. It was wild caught and has been in captivity in a large aquarium for almost 2 years. It hibernates in the winter and eats nightcrawler worms. WRONG again! It's a Red belly Snake. Storeria occipitomaculata. Brown snakes do not occur in Oklahoma. Yes, brown snakes DO occur in Oklahoma, check oksnakes.org. Also, red-bellied snakes don't have the two rows of black spots along the sides of the stripe on the back. It's S. dekayi. Approximately 12"
