Jane, Lady Archibald Hamilton (born Lady Jane Hamilton) was an important British noblewoman. She was born before 1704 and passed away on December 6, 1753, in Paris.

Lady Jane was the fifth child and third daughter of James Hamilton, 6th Earl of Abercorn and Elizabeth Reading. Her father was a respected Earl, and her mother was the daughter of Sir Robert Reading.

Lady Jane held several important roles in the royal court. She was a close helper to Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, who was the wife of Frederick, Prince of Wales. Lady Jane served as the Princess's First Lady of the Bedchamber, which meant she was a chief attendant. She also managed the Princess's clothes as Mistress of the Robes and handled her personal money as Privy Purse.

On September 29, 1719, Lady Jane Hamilton married Lord Archibald Hamilton. He was a nobleman who passed away in 1754. Together, they had six children.

Their Children

  • Charles: He passed away in 1751. He was married to Mary Dufresne.
  • Elizabeth: Born in 1720, she lived until 1800. Elizabeth married Francis Greville, 1st Earl of Warwick.
  • Frederic: Born in 1728, he lived until 1811. Frederic became a religious minister. He married Rachel Daniel on June 11, 1757.
  • Archibald: Sadly, Archibald drowned in an accident in 1744.
  • Sir William Hamilton: Born in 1730, he passed away in 1803. William became a diplomat, working for his country in other lands. He married Catherine Barlow in 1758. After she passed away, he married Emma Hart in 1795.
  • Jane: Born in 1726, she lived until 1771. Jane married Charles Schaw on July 24, 1753. He later became Charles Cathcart, 9th Lord Cathcart.

Lady Jane Hamilton passed away in Paris in 1753. She was laid to rest in Montmartre.
