Leon A. "Chief" Miller (1895–1961) was an important American sports coach. He coached both American football and lacrosse. Miller was born in 1895 and passed away in 1961. He is best known for his long coaching career at the City College of New York (CCNY).
Before becoming a coach, Miller was a college football player. He played in the early 1910s. During his time as a player, he was teammates with the famous athlete Jim Thorpe. They played together at the Carlisle Indian School.
Coaching Career at CCNY
Leon Miller spent many years coaching at the City College of New York (CCNY). He was an assistant football coach there from 1932 to 1933. Later, he became the head football coach for one season in 1943.
Lacrosse Coach
Miller was also the head men's lacrosse coach at CCNY for a very long time. He coached the lacrosse team from 1932 all the way until 1960. This shows he was a dedicated and long-serving coach for the college.
