Malley's Chocolates is a popular chain of candy stores. They are located in the Cleveland, Ohio area of the U.S. The company first started in a suburb called Lakewood. Four of their stores also have ice cream shops that are open all year.

The Story of Malley's Chocolates

How It All Began

Albert "Mike" Malley was the founder of Malley's Chocolates. In 1935, he borrowed $500 to start his dream. He opened his very first candy store on Madison Avenue in Lakewood. The Malley family even lived in the back of the building!

Their hard work paid off. By 1949, they were able to open a second store. This new store was also located in Lakewood.

Making Delicious Treats

Malley's moved its main office in 2010. It returned to Lakewood, Ohio, close to where the company began. This move helped create more space at their main factory. The factory is a huge 60,000-square-foot building in Cleveland.

This factory is famous for its three tall pink silos. These silos have the words "Milk," "Sugar," and "Cocoa" painted on them. Malley's makes many special treats. Their signature item is chocolate-covered strawberries. A special team of 50 people makes these for Valentine's Day each year. Other popular treats include chocolate-covered orange peels. They also make chocolate-covered grapes in the early summer.

Expanding to New Places

Malley's Chocolates was a seller at the 2016 Republican National Convention. This big event took place in Cleveland.

In October 2017, the company opened its 23rd store. This new store was in Plain Township. This area is a suburb of Canton. It was Malley's first store in Stark County. However, they already had stores in nearby Summit County.

Adele Ryan Malley is the "voice" of Malley's. She is the widow of Bill Malley, the founder's son.

Fun Promotions

Dan Malley used to be the president of Malley's. He is known for his unique ways of promoting the company. He has convinced famous people from Cleveland to appear in the Malley's catalog. These celebrities wore fuzzy bunny ears! This is an event that happens every year.

Malley also gave out 50,000 "CHOC" oval bumper stickers. If a Malley's team member saw a driver with one, the driver would get $25. They also had a chance to win $500.

Perhaps his most unusual promotion involved pink Volkswagen beetles. Malley convinced 25 people to lease and drive these cars. The cars had the Malley's and "CHOC" logos on them. Malley paid the drivers $150 each month. He also set up the $300 monthly lease through a car dealer in Cleveland.
