Moel y Parc (sometimes written as Moel-y-Parc) is a cool hill in Wales. It sits right on the border between two areas called Denbighshire and Flintshire. This hill is part of a longer line of hills known as the Clwydian Range. It stands about 398 meters (or 1,306 feet) tall above the sea. Near the very top, you can see a tall television mast. The summit also has old stone piles called cairns and ancient burial mounds called tumuli.

The Clwydian Range

Moel y Parc is one of the many hills that make up the Clwydian Range. This range is a chain of hills in northeast Wales. It stretches for about 35 kilometers (22 miles). The Clwydian Range is famous for its beautiful views. It is also known for its ancient hill forts. These forts were built by people long, long ago.

A Special Landscape

The Clwydian Range is a special area. It is called an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This means the landscape is protected. It is important for its natural beauty. Many people enjoy hiking and exploring here. The hills offer amazing views of the surrounding countryside. You can see far across Wales.

The Television Mast

Near the top of Moel y Parc, there is a very tall structure. This is the Moel-y-Parc television mast. It is a big tower that sends out TV and radio signals. These signals travel through the air. They reach homes all around the area. This mast helps people watch their favorite shows. It also helps them listen to the radio. It is an important part of how we get our media.

How a Mast Works

A television mast works like a giant antenna. It takes signals from a broadcasting station. Then, it sends them out over a wide area. This allows many people to receive the signals. Without masts like this, we would not be able to watch TV. We also would not be able to listen to radio. The mast on Moel y Parc serves a large part of North Wales. It also covers parts of northwest England.

Ancient History on the Hill

Moel y Parc is not just a pretty hill. It also has a lot of history. Near its summit, you can find two ancient features. These are a cairn and a tumulus.

What is a Cairn?

A cairn is a pile of stones. People built these piles for different reasons. Sometimes, they marked a special place. Other times, they were used as memorials. The cairn on Moel y Parc is very old. It shows that people have been using this hill for a long time.

What is a Tumulus?

A tumulus is an ancient burial mound. It is a small hill made by people. These mounds were built over graves. They were used to bury important people. The tumulus on Moel y Parc tells us about ancient burial customs. It is a link to the people who lived here centuries ago. These features make Moel y Parc a place of historical interest.
