The Oceanwide Center is a huge building project happening right now in San Francisco, California. It's made up of two very tall towers. These towers are called "mixed-use" because they will have different kinds of spaces inside. They will include offices for businesses, homes (condominiums) where people can live, and even a fancy hotel.

What the Oceanwide Center Looks Like
The Oceanwide Center has two main towers, each with its own special design and purpose.
The Taller Tower: 50 First Street
The taller tower is located at 50 First Street. It's planned to be about 910 feet (280 m) tall. That's super tall! This tower will have many floors dedicated to office space for companies. Above the offices, there will be floors with about 111 homes for people to live in.
At the bottom of this tower, there's a cool public space called an "urban room." It's an open area that's six stories high, where people can gather and relax. The tower's design is unique, with diagonal supports on the outside. It also gets narrower towards the top, which might remind you of the John Hancock Center in Chicago. If it's finished as planned, this tower would become the second-tallest building in San Francisco, right after the Salesforce Tower. It would even be taller than the famous Transamerica Pyramid!
The Shorter Tower: 512 Mission Street
The second tower, located at 512 Mission Street, is also very tall, planned to be about 605 feet (184 m) high. This tower will be home to a fancy hotel called the Waldorf Astoria San Francisco, which will have 169 rooms on its lower floors. Above the hotel, there will be about 154 homes. So, this tower also combines a hotel and residential living spaces.
How the Oceanwide Center Project Started
The area where the Oceanwide Center is being built, around 50 First Street, was part of a special city plan approved in 2012. This plan allowed for much taller buildings to be built in this part of San Francisco.
Early Plans and Changes
Originally, a developer named David Choo gathered the land for this project. Back in 2007, there were ideas for towers as tall as 1,200 feet (370 m) designed by a famous architect named Renzo Piano. However, during a difficult economic time called the 2008 financial crisis, David Choo had to sell the property.
New Owners and Construction Begins
In 2013, two companies, TMG Partners and Northwood Investors, bought the property. They hired the well-known architects Foster + Partners and Heller Manus Architects to create a new design for the project. Then, in 2015, a company from Beijing called Oceanwide Holdings bought the property for a lot of money. The official start of construction for the Oceanwide Center happened on December 8, 2016.
