The Story of Phantom Lake
Phantom Lake has an interesting history. Long ago, the lake's water flowed north into a different stream system called the Kelsey Creek basin.
How the Lake Changed
In the 1800s, a farmer named Henry Thode made a big change. He redirected the water flowing out of Phantom Lake. This new path led the water to Lake Sammamish, creating a new stream called Weowna Creek. This change helped shape the lake as we know it today.

Today, Phantom Lake covers an area of about 63 acres (0.25 square kilometers). At its deepest point, the lake is about 45 feet (14 meters) deep.
Nearby History
Not far from Phantom Lake, there used to be an airport called Bellevue Airfield. This airfield was closed in 1983. One of its runways, runway 20, had its approach path right along the southeastern shore of Phantom Lake.
