Filippo de' Medici (born May 20, 1577 – died March 29, 1582) was a young prince from the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. He was the heir to the Tuscan throne from the moment he was born until his early death in 1582.
Filippo was named in honor of Philip II of Spain, a powerful king at the time. His birth was a huge celebration for the royal court. This was because his arrival secured the future of the Grand Duchy's leadership for another generation. He was often called Don Filippo.
Filippo was the son of Grand Duke Francesco I of Tuscany and Archduchess Joanna of Austria. Sadly, he passed away at only four years old. After his death, the title of Grand Prince went to his cousin, Prince Ferdinando, who later became Grand Duke Ferdinando I of Tuscany. Filippo's older sister, Princess Maria, later became the wife of King Henri IV of France.
