She is well-known for her personal documentary film, Orchids, My ... Adventure.
Phoebe's Early Life
When Phoebe was young, she learned she wouldn't be able to have children. The reasons for this were not openly discussed at first. When Phoebe was 17, her mother shared a family secret with her about her medical condition. Phoebe had to have a surgery related to this condition. In her documentary, she talks about how difficult this surgery and the secrecy around it were for her. When she started filming her documentary, her parents were at first hesitant to be filmed.
Her Career in Film
Phoebe Hart finished her film studies at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 1995. She has worked on many TV shows. These include the children's program Totally Wild, and documentary projects for Network Ten. She also worked for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on shows like Race Around the World and Fly TV.
In 2009, Phoebe earned her doctorate degree from QUT. Her film Orchids was a big part of her studies for this degree. It took Phoebe and her sister, Bonnie Hart, six years to film this documentary. They used different types of cameras, from professional digital cameras to home video cameras. Phoebe has said that because of her medical condition, she felt she had to hide who she was. She was often scared of being left out because she felt like a "monster" or "freak."
Phoebe also used to be the president of the Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome Support Group Australia. This group helps people who have the same condition as her.
Her Family Life
Phoebe and her husband wanted to start a family. Because Phoebe could not have biological children, they decided to adopt a child. The process of adoption was challenging for them.
