A Look Back: Produce Row's History
The building where Produce Row Café is located was built in 1951. It first opened as a breakfast café in 1953. It served food to workers from the nearby produce docks. At one point, it was also a barbershop.
In 1974, Mike McMenamin and two friends bought the café. Mike was interested in the food business. At that time, Produce Row was in Portland's warehouse district. The McMenamin brothers sold the café to their employees in 1978.
Later, in the 2000s, Alan Davis bought Produce Row. After more than forty years of business, Produce Row closed its doors in 2014.
However, it did not stay closed for long. In 2015, Alan Davis sold Produce Row to Josh Johnston and James Hall. They reopened the restaurant and bar in May 2015.
