Robert Lowther (colonial administrator) facts for kids
Robert Lowther (born December 13, 1681 – died September 1745) was an English landowner. He owned the Maulds Meaburn estate. He also served as a governor in a British colony. Robert was the oldest son of Richard Lowther and Barbara Prickett.

Robert Lowther was an important figure in his time. He was known for owning land and for his work in government.
Governor of Barbados
From 1711 to 1714, and again from 1715 to 1720, Robert Lowther served as the Governor of Barbados. This was a very important job. As governor, he was in charge of the island of Barbados, which was a British colony back then.
His time as governor ended in 1720. There were some disagreements about his actions while he was in charge. These issues were discussed by a group called the Privy Council in London.
Robert Lowther's Family
On June 22, 1731, Robert Lowther married his cousin, Katherine Pennington. Her father was Sir Joseph Pennington, 2nd Baronet. Robert and Katherine had five children together:
- James Lowther, 1st Earl of Lonsdale (1736–1802)
- Margaret Lowther (1728 – September 10, 1800), who married Henry Vane, 2nd Earl of Darlington in 1757.
- Katherine Lowther (died March 21, 1809), who married Harry Powlett, 6th Duke of Bolton in 1765.
- Robert Lowther (1741–1777)
- Barbara Lowther, who never married.
