Description: Mid-18th-century French map showing the three non-contiguous parts of the Prince-Bishopric of Freising enclaved inside or at the southern edge of the Electorate of Bavaria. The episcopal city of Freising, residence of the prince-bishop, is at the far north of the northernmost enclave. The southermost enclave, the County of Werdenfels, with the towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen to the West and Mittenwald to the East, came under the control of the prince-bishop in the late 13th century. The other possessions of this very fragmented prince-bishopric, located much further to the east and south, are not shown on the map. Cropped from a map of the Circle of Bavaria published by Robert de Vaugondy circa 1755.
