Óscar's Football Journey
Starting at Real Madrid
Óscar Miñambres grew up in Fuenlabrada, Spain. He joined the Real Madrid youth academy, which is like a special school for young football players. He first played for the main Real Madrid team on December 13, 2000. He came into the game as a substitute (a player who replaces another during a match) in a cup game called the Copa del Rey.
His first game in La Liga, Spain's top football league, was on February 10, 2002. He played the whole game, which Real Madrid won 7-0! That year, he also played in the UEFA Champions League, a big European club competition. He even helped set up a goal in a game against FC Porto.
For several years, Óscar faced many injuries. He also spent some time playing for another top team, RCD Espanyol, on a temporary move called a "loan" during the 2004–2005 season. After his contract ended, Real Madrid did not offer him a new one, so he became a free agent, meaning he could join any team he wanted.
Moving to Hércules and Retirement
On August 8, 2007, it was announced that Óscar would join Segunda División club Hércules CF for three years. The Segunda División is Spain's second-highest football league. However, just one day later, he decided to end his contract. His knee injury had not fully healed, and because of this, he had to stop playing football right away. He retired from the sport at a young age due to his injuries.
Awards and Trophies
Even though his career was cut short, Óscar Miñambres won some big trophies with Real Madrid:
- La Liga: 2002–2003 (This means Real Madrid was the champion of Spain's top league that season!)
- UEFA Champions League: 2001–2002 (They won the biggest club competition in Europe!)
- Intercontinental Cup: 2002 (This was a match between the best club teams from Europe and South America.)
