The Argentine marked gecko (also known as Homonota whitii) is a type of lizard. It belongs to a group of lizards called the Phyllodactylidae family. This gecko is special because it is only found in Argentina.

What's in a Name?

The scientific name, whitii, was given to honor a naturalist named Ernest William White. He lived from 1858 to 1884. Mr. White was the person who first collected a sample of this gecko.

Where Does It Live?

The Argentine marked gecko lives in the northwestern part of Argentina. You can find it in several provinces there. These include Catamarca, Córdoba, La Rioja, Mendoza, Salta, and Tucumán.
