Barrington Francis was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on August 12, 1965. He moved to Canada in 1972 when he was seven years old. He became a professional boxer at age 19 in Montreal, Canada.
As a professional fighter in Montreal, he achieved early success. He won the Eastern Canadian title in 1986. He also won the Canadian national (CPBF) title in 1988. These wins showed he was a rising star in boxing.
In 1990, Barrington moved to Toronto. He continued his winning streak there. He won the North American Boxing Council (NABC) title. He also claimed the Commonwealth title. In 1991, he became the World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Champion. To do this, he gave up his other titles.
Barrington was recognized for his skills. He was named "Fighter of the Year" by the Canadian Professional Boxing Federation in 1988. He also received the "Fighter of the Year" award from the WBF in 1992. He was the last official CPBF champion from Canada.
