The 3x3 basketball tournament for women at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place in Paris, France. It started on July 30 and finished on August 5, 2024. All the exciting games were played at the Place de la Concorde. This was only the second time that 3x3 basketball for women was part of the Olympic Games.

Germany won their first gold medal by beating Spain in the final match. The United States team earned the bronze medal after winning against Canada.

How the Tournament Worked

The tournament had eight teams. They all played against each other once in a "round robin" style. This means every team played every other team.

The top two teams from this round robin went straight to the semi-finals. Teams ranked third to sixth played special "play-in" games. These games decided which two teams would join the semi-finals. After that, it was a knockout system, where losing a game meant you were out.

A game could end in two ways: either a team scored 21 points first, or the team with the most points after 10 minutes won.

How Teams Qualified

Eight teams got to play in the women's 3x3 basketball tournament. Each country sent a team of three players and one substitute. Teams qualified in a few different ways:

  • Some teams qualified based on their world ranking by FIBA (the international basketball federation).
  • Other teams earned their spot through special Olympic qualifying tournaments. These tournaments gave more countries a chance to compete.
  • The host country, France, was guaranteed a spot in one of the 3x3 events. For the women's tournament, they got a direct entry.
