Catharine Wood (born July 10, 1973) is an American music expert. She is a talented composer (someone who writes music), a songwriter (someone who writes songs), a musician, and a music producer. She is also an audio engineer, which means she works with sound recordings. Catharine owns her own music studio.

Her music often mixes styles like folk, rock, pop, and soul. Besides making music, Catharine is also an activist. She works hard to support other songwriters. She is also known for helping and guiding new people in the music recording world. Important groups like the AES and NAMM have recognized her work. She has even been featured in books about women who are leaders in music production. In 2022, she joined the board of The Recording Academy in Los Angeles. This is the group that gives out the Grammy Awards!

Early Life and Learning

Catharine Wood was born in Hong Kong in 1973. She grew up in different places, including Connecticut, Colorado, and California.

She went to Colorado College and earned a degree in Art. After that, she studied audio engineering and music production. She also learned about audio post-production at the LA Recording School. She finished at the top of her class in 2005.

Music and Engineering Work

As a composer and producer, Catharine Wood has created original music for big companies. Her work has been released by APM/Sonoton (part of Sony and UMG) and ESPN (Disney). You might have heard her music on many major TV networks.

She has also worked as an engineer on many projects. For example, she helped master the song "Hot Sauce (GEM Remix)" for the ABC Music/UMG Soul Movers Band. She also worked on global commercials while at Play Studios in Santa Monica. This includes the very first iPhone "hello" TV ad! She also worked on the "Get A Mac" campaign, which was one of the most famous ad campaigns of the 21st century.

Catharine also helped record the music for "The Planters Film." This film won 11 awards, including honors from the AFIFEST and Raindance. Her own studio, Planetwood Studios, LLC, is special. It is one of the few music studios in Los Angeles that is completely owned and run by a woman.

Helping Others

Catharine Wood is a strong supporter of songwriters. In 2020, she helped create the Corona Virus Songwriter Emergency Relief Grant Fund. This fund, started by SONA, gave money to songwriters during the pandemic. She worked with other famous artists like Autumn Rowe and Leona Lewis to make this happen.

She also regularly helps with education efforts for songwriters. She contributes to SoundGirls.org, an organization that supports women in audio. In 2022, she joined the "Fix The Mix" project by Emily Lazar's We Are Moving The Needle. This project aims to fix the big difference in the number of men and women working in the recording industry. Did you know that in 2021, only about 2.6% of music producers were women? Catharine is working to change that!

Personal Life

Catharine Wood lives in Los Angeles, California. She is a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
