Conasprella jaspidea, often called the Jasper cone, is a fascinating type of sea snail. It's a small, beautiful cone snail that lives in the ocean. These snails are a kind of gastropod mollusk, and they belong to the family called Conidae, which includes all the cone snails and their relatives.

Just like other cone snails in the Conasprella group, Jasper cones are predatory hunters. This means they hunt other small sea animals for food. They are also venomous, which means they can sting. Because of this, it's very important to be careful and not touch them if you ever see one alive.

Types of Jasper Cones

Within the Conasprella jaspidea species, there are a couple of recognized types:

Where Jasper Cones Live

This marine snail can be found in several parts of the world's oceans. You might find them in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, for example, near Guadeloupe. They also live in the Atlantic Ocean off the northern coast of Brasil.

What Jasper Cones Look Like

The shell of a Jasper cone can grow up to about 30 millimeters long. That's about 1.2 inches, or roughly the size of a small button!

Their Ocean Home

Jasper cones live in the ocean from the very shallow parts, right at the surface (0 meters deep), down to about 97 meters (around 318 feet) deep. They enjoy living in these underwater habitats.
