Concepción is a town located in the central part of Peru. It is the capital of the Concepción province within the Junín region. Being a "capital" means it's the main city or administrative center for that area.
Concepción is famous for an important historical event. In July 1882, during the War of the Pacific, a major battle took place here. A small group of 77 Chilean soldiers faced a much larger Peruvian force of 1,300. The Chilean soldiers were defeated in what is known as the Battle of La Concepción.

The Battle of La Concepción
One of the most significant events in the town's history is the Battle of La Concepción. This battle happened during the War of the Pacific. This war was fought between Chile and an alliance of Peru and Bolivia.
The battle took place on July 9 and 10, 1882. It was a fierce fight where a small group of Chilean soldiers was surrounded by a much larger Peruvian army. The Peruvian forces were victorious in this battle. This event is a key part of both Peruvian and Chilean history.
