Discover Cordova Mall
Cordova Mall first opened its doors in 1971. It has been updated twice, once in 1987 and again in 2008-2009. The mall covers a huge area, about 929,685 square feet. That's like 16 football fields!
What You'll Find Inside
The mall has many stores, including big "anchor" stores. Anchor stores are usually large department stores that attract many shoppers. Five of these big stores are inside the main mall building: Dillard's, Belk, Dick's Sporting Goods, Old Navy, and Ross Dress for Less.
Outdoor Stores
Some other popular stores are just outside the main mall. These include Best Buy, Bed, Bath and Beyond, and Cost Plus World Market. They are part of the mall, but you can enter them from outside.
A Popular Place to Visit
Cordova Mall is very popular! It's one of the top three places tourists visit in the Florida Panhandle. About eight million shoppers visit the mall every year. That's a lot of people coming to shop and have fun!
Mall History and Changes
Over the years, some stores have changed places or closed. For example, in 2012, Dillard's moved into a different building within the mall. This allowed Belk to move into the old Dillard's spot. Then, Dick's Sporting Goods took over most of the space where Belk used to be. Before 2001, a store called Montgomery Ward was located where Best Buy, Bed, Bath and Beyond, and Cost Plus World Market are now.
Tornado Damage
In 2007, a tornado caused some damage to the mall. Luckily, no one was hurt during the storm. The mall was fixed and continued to welcome shoppers.
