The channel first started broadcasting in May 2003. Back then, it only showed programs for about two hours each week, usually on Sunday. You could watch it on the Hot Bird satellite using the Arcoiris frequency. Later, in 2004, it also became available on the Eutelsat W3A satellite.
By 2006, El Hiwar El Tounsi had grown and started broadcasting for one hour every day on the same satellites.
