Harold Vernon Dutton Jr. (born February 17, 1945) is a politician from the Democratic Party. He serves in the Texas House of Representatives, which is part of the Texas state government. He represents District 142. Mr. Dutton was first elected in 1984. He is one of the longest-serving members in the Texas House of Representatives.

Laws and Public Service
Improving Schools in Texas
In 2015, Mr. Dutton wrote an important change to a bill called House Bill 1842. This change gave the Texas Education Agency (TEA) more power. The TEA could now take over school districts that were not doing well.
In 2023, the TEA used this power to take over the Houston Independent School District (HISD). Mr. Dutton had often spoken about problems in HISD. He has continued to support the TEA's decision to take over HISD.
