Description: Members of Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, were on hand to promote the district’s mission and talk about job opportunities available to students attending the annual Hampton University Military Appreciation Day football extravaganza Sept 29, at Armstrong Stadium on the campus of Hampton University, Hampton, Va. The fete was sponsored by Hampton University and military forces throughout Hampton Roads – US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, US Coast Guard and US Marines – to salute the military and their families serving in the area, and highlights the joint partnership as members of the Defense Department’s Minority College Relations program. The Hampton University Pirates made a late comeback attempt, but fell short and couldn’t overcome several turnovers in falling 38-26 to Florida’s Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The football extravaganza had all the pageantry of a homecoming game, complete with marching bands, cheerleaders, mascots and cheering, supportive armed forces servicemen and women.
