Description: 19th century soldier's graffiti carved into the bricks of Norris's Obelisk (also known as Norris's Whim or the Camberley Obelisk), Camberley, Surrey. The tower was built by John Norris of Hawley Place in about 1765-1770, and during the 19th century cadets from the nearby Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst would be marched up and down the hill on which the obelisk was located by the Duke of York. Almost the whole structure is covered by the names of approximately 10,000 soldiers.
