Description: 'Pari Mahal' or 'Fairies Abode' is situated on a hillock over looking the beautiful Dal Lake. ( See the view of Dal Lake from Pari Mahal). This terraced arched garden was built by Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in mid-seventeenth century. This construction served as an observatory and a teaching school for kids to learn astrology. The fact that you have a clear view of the sky that is minimally obscured by the huge mountains that surround entire Kashmir makes it an ideal spot to observe stars at night.
