Description: Aconitum delphinfolium (wolf's bane, monkshood, or sometimes locally called parrot's beak) growing in its natural habitat, in relative rocky, alpine tundra/forest transition areas in mountainous terrain, with rich, wet soil and good drainage, especially on hill tops or sides with a rocky or sandy, underlying base. The plant is generally found amongst plants like crow berry, false hellebore, alpine foxtail, alpine rice, yarrow, nootka lupine, alpine lupine, alpine bistort, mountain hemlock, devil's club, cow parsnip, fireweed and other plants. This photo was taken at Turnagain Pass, Alaska in late summer, when the plant blooms and the flowers open for bees (usually bumble bees, but occasionally honey bees).
