Description: In 1939, the Canadian government expropriated farmland in present-day Ajax (then part of Pickering Township) to build the Defence Industries Limited (DIL) factory. This map shows the farms and owners of present-day Ajax in 1939, before the expropriation. The image is based on map on page 12 of the book Ajax, the War Years, 1939/45 by Ken Smith (1989).
