Description: A distinctive onion largely because of its two flat falcate leaves that arise from buried leaf sheaths. These leaves begin withering from tip by anthesis and are typically deciduous (along with the flowering scape) at seed set. The bulb coats are distinctively prominently cellular-reticulate with the cells arranged in ±vertical rows. The tepals are also distinctive in being linear lanceolate and with entire margins. The is distinctly crested. This onion flowers during late spring and early summer and typically inhabits clayey or other sites with low vegetation cover.
