Description: For an MD-80, this is a very long takeoff roll. This is American 2428 to Dallas-Ft. Worth. This aircraft had originally been built in 1999 for TWA, as part of its last-minute fleet renewal. Badly hammered by CEO Carl Icahn's pillaging in the 1980s and 1990s, TWA had to scale back its operations and make itself over as a primarily domestic airline; Boeing 757s and 717s joined the fleet alongside MD-80s to replace Boeing 727s and other aging models. Despite this effort, TWA filed for its third bankruptcy protection in 2001, and was saved in the form of a merger with American; by December 2001, TWA ceased to exist. N972TW, McDonnell-Douglas MD-83
