Description: Coat of arms of the House of Trencavel (before 1247). Blazon: Barry of six gules and argent charged of ravelles sable. A 'ravelle' is a heraldic representation of a fingerling, used to create canting arms for Trencavel; for liguistic comparison reference the crevalle jack, Caranx hippos (also known as the black-tailed trevally, black cavalli, jack crevale, yellow cavalli, etc. In the 13th century, the term 'ravelle' referred to a number of fingerling fish of various sardine-like species.)
