Description: The west end of the 7-mile, twin slab, I-10 bridge ends here at this east entrance into Bankhead Tunnel. Converging at this same point is the old U.S. 98 "Causeway" that rose barely above water level. Sometime in the not so distant past, this entrance was given a face lift and the pretty landscaping. Until the twin tube, I-10 tunnel was operational, motorists had to pay 25 cents to pass through the tunnel. I think an extra 10 cents was added per axle. The money was used for maintenance of the tunnel.
