Description: Belleville VIA Rail station in the golden light of late afternoon. A National Historic Site of Canada, built in 1856 by Thomas Brassey for Canadian National predecessor Grand Trunk Railway, this was the oldest continuously operating passenger train station in Canada before a new Belleville Station took over passenger services in 2012, leaving w:Napanee railway station as "oldest continuously serving". The line opened October 27, 1856 from Montréal to Toronto. There is a w:Port Hope railway station of similar age on the same line which was allowed to decline before being restored as an operating station.
