Description: Glen Osmond: "Benacre" Benacre house (without land) is at 6 Benacre Close, off Glen Osmond Rd between Fisher St and Fergusson Ave. 1844 a single-storeyed house was built by G.F. Shipster after the subdivision of section 270 by the main road it passed to Robert Cock. 1846 Purchased on 16 acres by William Bickford who planted the first garden and built a portion of the residence. The next owner was T.B. Strangways, followed by Thomas Graves, who had the grounds replanted as a shrubbery and built 'the present two-storey house.' mid-1870's: Henry Scott, Mayor of Adelaide. During Scott’s tenure of some 30 years, he hosted countless social events. 1906-1923 John Lewis At the death of Hon.
