Description: Beryl (Var.: Heliodore) Locality: Palermo No. 1 Mine (Palermo #1 pegmatite), Groton, Grafton County, New Hampshire, USA (Locality at mindat.org) Size: 4.5 x 4.0 x 1.9 cm. Golden beryl (heliodor) is rare from the Palermo No. 1 Mine of New Hampshire and is extremely rare in this size. A 3.2 cm crystal with rich, yellow color and textbook, hexagonal form is very aesthetically set in albite matrix. The termination area is very gemmy on this lustrous, complete-all-around crystal and the lustrous pinacoid surface has an interesting, scalloped look. This is an outstanding large golden beryl crystal from this noted locale and was self-collected by Robert Whitmore in the 1980s.
