Description: The famous Bewcastle cross, in midday spring sun, showing the south and east faces. The noted architectural and art historian Nikolaus Pevsner wrote..." The Crosses of Bewcastle and Ruthwell ....are the greatest achievement of their date in the whole of Europe..". The cross is dated AD 685 - 730, the later date date now being favoured. The cross is in the graveyard of the parish church.
