Description: St Andrew's Church, Blickling, Norfolk, monumental brass of Isabel Cheyne (d.1485) (neé Boleyn), eldest daughter of Sir w:Geoffrey Boleyn (1406-1463) of Blickling Hall, by his second wife Anne Hoo (1424–1484), the only child and heiress of Thomas Hoo, Baron Hoo and Hastings (c.1396–1455), a Knight of the Garter, by his first wife Elizabeth Wychingham, a daughter of Sir Nicholas Wychingham. Isabel married William Cheyney (1444-1487), son and heir of Sir John Cheyney of Shurland Hall, Isle of Sheppey, Kent. Her brothers included Sir William Boleyn (1451–1505), who married Margaret Butler, a daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Butler, 7th Earl of Ormond, by whom he had issue including Thomas Boleyn, 1st Earl of Wiltshire, the father of Queen Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII. Isabel Cheyne was thus a great-aunt of Queen Anne Boleyn. Inscribed in Latin (Source: Francis Blomefield, 'Hundred of South Erpingham: Blickling', in An Essay Towards A Topographical History of the County of Norfolk: Volume 6 (London, 1807), pp. 381-409, footnote 25 [1]): Hic jacet Isabella Cheyne, quondam Uxor Willi(elmi) Cheney Amigeri, de Insula de Shippey, in Comitatu Cancie que obiit XXIIIo die mensis Aprilis Anno Domini MCCCCLXXXV cuius anime propicietur Deus Amen.Which may be translated: "Here lies Isabel Cheyne, once the wife of William Cheyne, Esquire, of the Isle of Sheppey in the County of Kent, who died on the 23rd day of the month of April in the year of our Lord 1485 on the soul of whom may God look with favour, Amen" The arms are stated by Blomefield (1807) as: Azure, six lions rampant argent a canton ermine (Cheyne of Kent) impaling Boleyn (i.e. Boleyn (ancient)): Argent, a chevron gules between three bull's heads afrontée sable. Genealogy Cecily Boleyn (1400-1458), died unmarried (brass in Blickling Church) Sir w:Geoffrey Boleyn (1406–1463), a wealthy mercer who purchased Blickling Hall Isabel Boleyn (d.1485) (brass in Blickling Church), married William Cheyney (1444-1487) of Shurland Hall, Isle of Sheppey, Kent. Sir w:William Boleyn (1451–1505) of Blickling, son, who married Lady Margaret Butler (1454–1539), a daughter and co-heiress of w:Thomas Butler, 7th Earl of Ormond. Anne Boleyn (1476-1479) who died aged 3 (brass in Blickling Church) Thomas Boleyn, 1st Earl of Wiltshire (c.1477-1539), son, born at Blickling Queen Anne Boleyn (c.1501-1536), daughter, the second wife of King Henry VIII.
