Description: Entrance to the Castle Moat (of the long demolished Bristol Castle which stood to the left) viewed from the "Floating Harbour", the natural course of the River Avon, now diverted into an artificial channel to the south. Footbridge over. This was the site of the "Water Gate", guarded by five towers ("Bristol Past and Present" (Arrowsmith, 1881, pages 74-79), J. F. Nicholls and John Taylor)
