Description: The Chee Kung Tong building in Barkerville, British Columbia, Canada. The building is a two-storey board and batten structure originally used by the Chee Kung Tong organization, a benevolent association for recent arrivals from China. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2007 because it illustrates the community building among immigrant Chinese labourers and merchants in new settlements throughout Canada in the 19th century, and it is a rare surviving example of a Chee Kung Tong structure in Canada. The site is also listed in the historic registry for the Cariboo Regional District. The horizontal and vertical signboards above the second-storey balcony door distinguish this building as Chinese construction.
