Description: A fragment of the Xiping stone classics Eastern Han Dynasty (A.D. 25 - 220) The First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, wishing to control political though, ordered the burning of many Confucian classics including the Book of Songs, the Book of History, the Book of Changes, the Book of Rites, the Spring and Autumn Annals, the Analectss and the commentary of Gong Yang. These classics were carved in stone in A.D. 172 - 178, and erected at the Imperial College in Luoyang in an attempt to settle differing interpretations of Confucian classics.
