Description: Polyzostera mitchelli. This native cockroach is common to Central Australia. Mitchell's wandering cockroach perches in small shrubs on the Nullarbor Plain at midday. The unique, clear, window-like areas along the sides of its thorax may reflect the hot rays of the sun. It secretes a repulsive-smelling liquid when disturbed which probably serves as a repellant to predators. The female deposits her egg case in a shallow ground in the soil that she has dug.
