Description: Another canned mullet label from the Auckland Customs records. F. Williams of Auckland applied for a bonus under the Fisheries Encouragement Act 1885 [full title - An Act for the Establishment of Fishing Towns and Villages, and further to encourage Fisheries in New Zealand, and to promote the Production of Canned and Cured Fish for Export.] This colourful label has a local scene, including Rangitoto in the background, and claims that “Positively no solder used in the inside of this can.” Held at Archives New Zealand Auckland Regional Office, BBAO 5544/197a 1889/1205 Henry S McKellar, Secretary and Marine, and Inspector of Customs, Wellington - F Williams - his intention to export fish for bonus, 1889 www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=16221665 Material from Archives New Zealand Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga
