Description: Captain Alezur Holyoke’s Exploring Party on the Connecticut River by Ross E. Moffett; inexplicably Alezur is often spelled "Alezue" despite the fact that the historic figure portrayed is Elizur Holyoke. This oil mural is visible at the west wall of the Holyoke Post Office above the Postmaster's door. It depicts a scene of Elizur Holyoke and his team surveying the land to the south of Mount Tom which can be seen in the background. To the left are two colonists looking over their day's catch of American shad which remain abundant in the Connecticut River at Hadley Falls to this day. To the right a man in a flat-bottom boat can be seen with a deer, of the day's hunt.
