It was the first Carnegie Library built at a black land-grant college. In 1976, the Southeastern Regional Black Archives Research Center and Museum was founded at the Carnegie Library. The facility was expanded in 2006 and renamed for United States Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek and Dr. James N. Eaton, founder of the Black Archives.
